Vermont Insights is the easiest way to find and use data to improve the well-being of Vermont’s children, families and communities. It is a program of Vermont’s Early Childhood State Advisory Council, Building Bright Futures (BBF). The expanded and updated version 2.0 was officially unveiled on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the 5th Annual Data Stewards and Stakeholders Meeting in Montpelier. The response was overwhelmingly positive. “The day was well-organized, and the revamped Vermont Insights is FANTASTIC! Congratulations all around on the design and functionality” said one stakeholder from the private sector.
Vermont Insights breaks down barriers to data held by different Vermont agencies by gathering them in one place, along with more than 15 trusted data sources like the US Census. “Many state agencies are sharing their data. We look forward to expanding that number,” say Sarah Squirrell, BBF's new Executive Director. The system is fully searchable and free to the public, even as it continues to grow. A public sector stakeholder at the meeting noted, “All agencies across Vermont share similar struggles with updating, maintaining, and sharing data. Vermont Insights is really providing creativity and support to make this transition to shared data easier and more efficient.”
Since 2014, Vermont Insights has partnered with the Vermont State Data Center based in the Center for Rural Studies at the University of Vermont. “I’m excited about the partnership between Building Bright Futures and the Center for Rural Studies at the University of Vermont because it will help us link lots of different types of data to help better decision making at the local and state level,” said Jane Kolindinski, Director of the Center for Rural Studies.
